While building custom furniture and cabinetry as a hobby Mr. McDonough held
several positions in the High Tech industry from 1977 to 2002. He started in
electronics as a Technician and Electrical Engineer, moved into Technical
Education as Director and Program Instructor, became a Project Manager, Managed
several software development and web development teams and finished his
corporate career as a Senior Project Manager Consultant in the Information
Technology field.
Mr. McDonough's passion for woodworking, and building furniture and cabinetry, grew throughout his tenure in Corporate America. He continually challenged himself by taking on more difficult projects which in turn honed his skills as craftsman and woodworker. In 2002 he decided to change his status to Full-Time Woodworker and Business Owner after the consulting company he worked for made a poor business decision and was forced to give the entire staff an immediate pay reduction. Mr. McDonough stopped woodworking for over 3 months to focus on becoming more "business minded" and developed a strategy that would allow his one-man home-based woodworking business to be built on a sound foundation of profitability and long-term success, while providing him with a full-time salary equal to his pay as a consultant. The result is a well known custom furniture and cabinetry business located in Walpole, Massachusetts, Boston Accent Furniture, which Mr. McDonough still runs today.
